Picturesque Bruges & Ghent 22, October, 2018

Enjoy this short break based in Bruges, with its quaint canals, network of cobbles streets and medieval buildings, Bruges is one of the most beautiful towns in Europe. Included in this tour are visits to the Belgian gems of Ghent and Ypres.

Day 1 We make our way through France into Belgium and onto our hotel.

Day 2 The morning is free to explore Bruges; you may fancy a horse-drawn carriage ride along Bruges’ winding streets, visit the Kantcentrum (Lace Centre) housed in the renovated old lace school and telling the story of Bruges’ lace, see the beauty of Bruges from the water on one of the many canal cruises, or of course you may wish to visit the Choco-Story Chocolate Museum; there is so much to see and do in Bruges you will be spoilt for choice! In the afternoon we will travel to Ypres, mainly known through its connection with the First World War. Ypres is a beautiful city with so much history; it is dominated by the huge Cloth Hall in the Grote Markt (Market Square), home to the Flanders Fields Museum. We will attend the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, held every night of the year at 8.00pm, before returning to our hotel.

Day 3 After breakfast we travel to Ghent, affectionately known as the ‘Flower Capital of Belgium. Ghent is an elegant city, with a wonderful legacy of medieval architecture and imposing monuments and the only city in Belgium to have a castle in centre! Ghent is an easy city to walk around or, like Bruges, you may wish to take a canal cruise for a different view of the city.

Day 4 After a leisurely breakfast there will be plenty of free time in Bruges before heading for home.
