Edinburgh Tattoo

alternative dates available

Edinburgh Tattoo 06, August, 2018

From its early days, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has been an international favourite. Each year’s Tattoo is very much a ‘global gathering’, showcasing the talents of musicians and performers from every corner of the globe.

Day 1 We will make our way to our overnight hotel in Harrogate. We should arrive early enough for free time in Harrogate before our evening meal.

Day 2 We will begin our day by making a visit to Beamish, a living, working museum, set in 300 acres of beautiful Durham countryside. Experience a real sense of your past and discover what life was like in North East England in the 1820’s 1910’s and 1940’s. Costumed folk bring to life the Town, Pit Village, Home Farm and Pockerley Old Hall. The buildings you see are not replicas, but have been brought, brick by brick, from around the region and rebuilt to give visitors a real sense of history. We will leave Beamish mid-afternoon and continue our journey to Peebles and our hotel.

Day 3 After breakfast we will make our way to Edinburgh where you will have the day free to enjoy the city. Early evening we will make our way to the Castle for the Tattoo, an iconic Edinburgh institution and a sell-out year after year. Music, dance and precision display with the Massed Pipes and Drums, the Massed Military Bands, cultural troupes, singers and the poignant refrain of the Lone Piper against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.
NB: Today only breakfast will be served at the hotel; all other meal arrangements will be at your own expense.

Day 4 Today we visit the award winning New Lanark World Heritage Site and discover the fascinating story of the impressive cotton mill village and the life and times of mill manager and social pioneer Robert Owen. There will be time for lunch at the Heritage site before we return to Peebles where there will be time to wander round the fine buildings and shops before returning to our hotel.

Day 5 Today we leave our hotel and make our way back to Harrogate making a stop in the old market town of Kendal.

Day 6 After breakfast we begin our journey home, stopping for lunch along the way.
