We arrive in Winchester late morning to enjoy some free time exploring this delightful, unspoilt city. Renowned for its eleventh century Cathedral and for the Great Hall, which for over 700 years has housed the mysterious King Arthur’s round table. The city was also the medieval capital of Britain and remnants of the historical importance of Winchester can be found throughout the centre. Alongside its ancient heritage is a vibrant and bustling destination with an abundance of shops and delightful restaurants and cafes.
In the afternoon we head to The Watercress Line for our return journey on the heritage steam railway, departing from the picturesque Georgian town of Alresford. In years gone by, the Watercress Line took people on holiday, carried people to war, transported evacuees and moved all the essential goods of the area. Today, the railway offers the perfect day out, where you can sit back and relax as the train meanders through the stunning Hampshire countryside whilst experiencing the nostalgic sights, sounds and smells of steam. During the journey we will enjoy a delicious cream tea*.
