Day 1: We make our way through France and into Germany for our overnight stay in Saarbrücken.
Day 2: Departing after breakfast we arrive at the delightful Silvretta Parkhotel, Klosters. After a traditional warm welcome and checking in to our rooms, we will enjoy a delicious 4-course buffet dinner this evening.
Day 3: Today our magical Christmas journey truly begins as we enjoy a one-hour horse-drawn sleigh ride through the town. It’s time to completely switch off and immerse yourself in Christmas spirit, taking in the stunning scenery and enchanting ambience. The remainder of the day is at leisure to enjoy the romantic village-like atmosphere of Klosters, which despite its popularity retains its friendly and rural charm. Wander through the picturesque streets and maybe buy a last minute gift or two. There is even an ice rink opposite the hotel, creating the idyllic winter wonderland setting. Alternatively, you can chose to take the short 15-minute train journey to the neighbouring resort of Davos. The highest town in Europe and established health resort with its fresh clean mountain air, clear skies and extended hours of sunshine. This Alpine metropolis is a bustling and popular ski resort with great shopping, lively bars and restaurants and is in stark contrast to quaint Klosters.
Day 4: Christmas Eve. This morning, we travel to Chur, the oldest city in Switzerland, where we join the Arosa Line Railway for our return trip to Arosa. Traversing through the stunning alpine scenery this breath-taking passage climbs 1000 metres and travels through 19 tunnels, passing over 41 bridges. The crown of the journey is the world-famous Langwieser viaduct through the Schanfigg Valley. We arrive in Arosa around lunch-time and there will be free-time to enjoy this delightful resort. Remember to bring your sun cream and sunglasses as the town, with its altitude of 1800 metres, is well known for its sunny, sheltered location even in the winter months. We return to our wonderful hotel mid-afternoon. This evening, we enjoy the town’s annual Christmas celebration where guests and locals travel in torchlight procession to get together in the forest for an evening of Christmas songs, mulled wine and cookies. A truly spellbinding event, guaranteed to immerse you in Christmas spirit.
Day 5: Christmas Day. Frohe Weihnacten! We wake up to a picture-perfect backdrop of snow-capped mountains and enjoy a hearty breakfast. This morning is at leisure to celebrate Christmas as you wish, whether enjoying your own traditions, opening presents or taking a walk through the beautiful town. We enjoy a delicious traditional 3-course Christmas Lunch before relaxing at the hotel this afternoon. Maybe make use of the hotels leisure facilities or switch off from it all in the comfortable lounge. This evening there will be a 4-course buffet dinner and live music from a pianist in the cosy piano bar with its open fire.
Day 6: Boxing Day. After an early breakfast this morning we travel to Tierfencastel to join the Bernina Express, a unique travel experience in a class of its own. This narrow gauge railway coexists in perfect harmony with its glorious mountain setting and is an astonishing feat of engineering where the wonders of nature and achievements of man merge into one. One of the most awe-inspiring ways to experience the majestic Alps this panoramic journey connects the north of Europe to the south – passing the eternal ice of the glaciers and frozen lakes, snow-covered mountains dotted with skiers and through the Domleschg valley with the highest density of castles in Europe. We arrive in the delightful town of Tirano in Italy and there will be time for a bite to eat before we return to our hotel by coach later this afternoon.
Day 7: After a delicious breakfast we say Verabschiedung to our hosts and a dreamlike Christmas never to be forgotten as we begin our return journey, making an overnight stop in Saarbrucken .
